Our style of care

Seedlings offers a Waldorf-inspired preschool environment to 2-6 year old children.  In our mixed-age setting, children form strong bonds with each other and their teachers. Older children mentor younger children in the art of play and negotiation, while teachers provide nurturing guidance throughout the day.
We work and play with our friends; through our daily activities together we strengthen our social skills.  Spending time outdoors, taking walks, playing and garden activities connect children to our natural environment and the changing of seasons.  Growing, harvesting and preparing food are key components of the Seedlings learning experience.  Through the rhythms of household and garden life, children gain  confidence, dexterity, and life skills.  They deepen their sense of purpose within the home environment.  Children peel potatoes for soup, pull weeds from the garden, and participate in tidying up the toys before lunch.
At the core of the Seedlings philosophy is nurturing the senses of  the young child: our program is media free.  We supply simple toys that encourage imagination, rather than dictate it.  Wooden blocks become castles, play silks become capes.  Our program is child-centered, but not child-led.  Adults provide gentle guidance and encouragement to children in our care, without interfering much in their free play.
We share healthy home-made meals and snacks together, family-style.  Children help with setting the table, preparing food, and cleaning up after.  Meals are a time for conversation, connection, storytelling, and thankfulness.  We invite parents join us for lunch as often as they please (just let us know in advance so we can prepare enough yummy healthy food!)
We share stories every day, as well as sing songs, recite verses, play at finger-games and puppetry.  All help to stimulate literacy and awaken creativity and imagination in the child.
Parents are invited to help organize a certain number of festivals based on the seasons and the traditions of Seedlings families  Our hope is that, as a group of families coming together each day, we will create our own festivals and celebrations that reflect the diverse traditions.
We hope to provide not only a beautiful nurturing learning environment for your child, but also support for your family as best we can. We view ourselves as a resource for parents.  We hope to offer learning opportunities related to parenthood, nutrition, Waldorf education and more throughout the year.

Thank you for your interest in Seedlings!
